Quick description about geostrain:
The main purpose of the software is to calculate the crustal strain rates using the least-squares collocation method. The software can simultaneously determine the signal and noise of the velocities at the observation points with the best possible removal of the observation errors, or at any other position with no velocity observation. Furthermore, the software can calculate strain and rotation rate tensors at points of interest, including observation points, grid points, or points along a fault line. The advantage of the software is that it can optionally consider the effect of vertical velocity on the strain rates. This is principally important for areas where the vertical velocity is the major signal compared to horizontal velocity.Note: A revised code for functionality on MATLAB 2024a for Macs is available at: https: //zenodo.org/records/16950985 (thanks to Dr. Sarah Stamps for sharing the code).

- Two different types of covariance functions namely Gaussian and rational functions for fitting to the variance-covariance points
- Using two methods for making the histogram of the covariance sample points and interactive editing of the points
